The Marin Rift Zone occupies a very unique spot in the bike market, as a short travel frame meant to attack relatively serious terrain.
- Great build kit
- Fun and unusual synthesis of parts and geo
- Adaptable frame platform
- Mix of progressive and dated geometry
- Heavy and sticky for a short travel bike

Marin's new Rift Zone captures the essence of agile handling and an engaging ride and slaps on a price tag that doesn't just appeal to hedge fund managers.
- Exploitable handling, whatever your level. A bike that can grow with your skills. Fun to ride. No gimmicks.
- Overweight. You’ll find better spec from a direct-sales brand.

- balanced geometry
- Great suspension with impressive shock tune

- intuitive-feeling ride
- A grippier front tyre would be a bonus

The 2023 Marin Rift Zone alloy mountain bikes are all-new from the ground up, but they call it an evolution, not a revolution. The goal was to simply take one of their most popular models and make it more capable without changing its playful character.

Just like with a few other bikes in this test group, we weren't quite sure about the Marin. The suspension travel is right for trail riding, but the setup with the beefy front tire suggests it's more suited for all-mountain.
